1. Overview
Fernly is operated by Alexandria Mind, Inc. (“Alexandria Mind,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect information you provide when you use Fernly.
We take the privacy of children seriously. All child-related data is handled under the oversight of the directing parent or guardian. Children do not create accounts or interact with Fernly directly.
2. What we collect
Before ordering — waitlist only
When you join the waitlist, we collect your email address and, optionally, an indication that you would like to be notified about related products. We do not collect any information about your child at this stage.
When placing an order (S4 intake — not yet built)
When Fernly opens for orders, we will ask for the following information to create your child’s book:
- Parent or guardian name and email address.
- Your child's first name (used verbatim in the book).
- A photo of your child (used only to create the anchor illustration for their book).
- Information about your child: age, things they love, and a worry or challenge they are facing.
3. How we use information
We use the information you provide to:
- Create and deliver your personalised Fernly book.
- Send you order confirmations and delivery updates.
- Notify you when Fernly opens (waitlist only, until then).
- Improve the Fernly system — using only non-personal, aggregate information.
4. Your child’s photo
Your child’s photo is sensitive personal information. We handle it accordingly:
- The photo is used only to create the anchor illustration for your child's book.
- It is never used to train any AI model.
- It is stored encrypted, accessible only via short-lived signed URLs, and never returned to anyone other than the ordering parent.
- It is never shared with third parties for any purpose other than the narrow task of generating the anchor illustration under zero-data-retention terms.
- It is deleted after book fulfilment, within the retention window specified at the time of ordering.
5. Children’s privacy and parental consent
Fernly is directed to parents and guardians, not to children. All information about a child is provided by, and stored under the account of, the ordering parent or guardian.
We comply with applicable laws governing the collection and handling of children’s personal information, including the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) where applicable. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children directly. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us without appropriate parental consent, please contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL] and we will delete it promptly.
Before any child data is processed (including a photo or name), Fernly requires verifiable parental consent from the ordering parent or guardian.
6. We do not sell personal information
Alexandria Mind, Inc. does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or your child’s information to third parties.
7. Service providers
We use a small number of trusted service providers to operate Fernly: cloud infrastructure and database hosting (Supabase), payment processing (Stripe), and email delivery (Resend). These providers process data only to the extent necessary to deliver the service and are bound by appropriate data-processing terms.
Child photos are transmitted to AI image-generation providers only under zero-data-retention terms.
8. Data retention
Waitlist email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Order and account data is retained for the period required to fulfil and support your order, and then for the period required by applicable law. Your child’s photo is deleted after book fulfilment within the stated retention window.
9. Your rights and data deletion
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information (and any information about your child that you provided) at any time by contacting us at [CONTACT EMAIL]. We will respond within the timeframe required by [GOVERNING JURISDICTION] law.
To opt out of the waitlist, reply to any email from us or contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL].
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Fernly service evolves. We will post the revised policy on this page with a new effective date. Material changes that affect how we handle children’s data will be communicated directly to affected parents.
